We’ve all heard the saying,” When you gotta go, you gotta go.” And I think we all believe that statement to be true. And we all know sometimes you’re in and out quickly and sometimes, well, it takes a little longer.
It is what it is, so what’s the problem? Well, it seems the managers of a Chinese electromagnetic coil manufacturing plant decided the workers were wasting a little too much time getting rid of their waste. So they implemented several strict rules designed to boost productivity. Among those rules was one really crappy one…a time limit on bathroom breaks. TWO MINUTES. Two minutes, how is that even possible? I mean, you have to figure in the time it takes to get from their workspace to the restroom, the time to do what they went in for…tick, tock ,tick ,tock, tick, tock, and let’s not forget about hygiene. The CDC recommends 15 seconds of washing your hands for germ removal, a few seconds to dry and run like hell back to your position, gasping for breath and you can see why these workers were a little pissed off.
So they did what any of us might do under the same circumstances, they took 18 of their managers hostage, and held them from a Friday morning until almost midnight on Saturday. That’s when the police came and broke up the fun and games, but only after the managers agreed to reconsider their new set of rules.
More and more, the Chinese are becoming aware of workers rights in other countries of the world; like being able to do what comes naturally, in the time it needs to get done. Only time will tell if these workers win their fight, start wearing adult diapers like they do in Japan, or if they will need to resort to another protest.
Maybe next time, they should try a sit-down strike.

Hostage taking for way-too-short bathroom breaks: An extreme solution for an extreme situation. Could this have gone any crazier?
Probably, but let’s not try to imagine how.

What are you talking about? I’m thinking of incorporating hostage taking into more of my daily activities.
Ok, I’m joking. It actually sounds like a lot of work.

are you going into the hostage business, like the one in France? a lot of planning involved. I think this one was more like “pissing in the wind.”

You never know what will make someone snap…in this case it was a shitty excuse.
