Beware of Teenagers Bearing Gifts.

It’s hard to get kids to listen these days. Actually, that’s always been difficult. Still, we have them, we want to have them. From the time they’re old enough to think beyond basic necessities, it’s game on. Parents have to deal with constant resistance, rebellion, questions, queries and arguments. When a child wants to get his/her own way, they’ll find a way, or piss you off trying. Sometimes, their attempts at outsmarting parents can be innovative and sometimes, dangerous. Other times, just plain stupid.

One example of this comes from Rocklin, California, where a teenager and her visiting female friend were turned in to police by the girl’s own parents for drugging the parents’ milkshakes.

Polka Dot MilkshakesWhy? Well, how else was she going to continue surfing the internet past the strict 10 pm cut-off time? Obviously!

As the story goes, the girl offered to buy the milkshakes her parents, who gladly accepted. She bought them, but before she gave them the shakes, spiked them with a friend’s prescription sleeping pills, just enough to knock them out. The police then reported that the parents said the shakes were “crunchy” and had a “bad taste”, so they each only drank about a quarter of them. But that was enough. The parents were out cold about an hour later and the girls were free to surf.

The names of girls, the daughter, 15, and her friend, 16, who are both minors, were not given out by police. They did say, however that the girl’s parents suspected something was up when they woke up the next morning and had trouble remembering what had happened the night before. They decided to pick up some drug testing kits from the police and discovered they had, in fact, been dosed.

While the girls cool it off in Juvenile Detention, neighbors, who found out soon afterward, could not believe the girls would go so far to get their own way, Police are trying to decide if to lay criminal charges and say the girls could actually face some jail time.

Me? I’m going to think twice before accepting any gestures from kindness from any kids any time soon.

  1. Wow, that is absolutely horrible! I’ve raised two boys on my own, and there have been some tough times. I think if it had hit that point though, I might have truly thought about just walking away. The sad truth is they could be parents who are trying really hard to raise their kids right and still have this happen.

    • I’ll be honest. The more I learn what some kids are up to, the more I have to convince myself I still want to be a parent. For now, I’m still leaning towards “yes”.

      For now…
