Kids are bored. And they have access to the internet. This has lead to several trends of ridiculous “pranks” going viral. Remember “fire in the hole” when they would throw drinks at fast food workers? Or planking when they would lay flat as a bored in various positions?
The latest of these dumb ass trends is “Gallon Smashing”. Since the adults know about it, I’m sure the kids have been doing this for a while and are subsequently over it. But I’m an adult and kids are ridiculous.
Gallon smashing is a simple as it sounds. They take a gallon or two of milk, and hurl it, and themselves on the ground. Then when store employees come over to help, the kids make a scene about getting up. Some nearby kid is taping it (see how adult I am? I say “taping”) and they upload it to YouTube.
Besides it being a major annoyance, it’s not even really funny. I still laugh at fart noises from ketchup bottles, but it’s just not funny watching these kids flail around in spilled milk. All I’m thinking is “man that’s like $3.99 wasted” or “I sure could go for some Raisin Nut Bran” right now.
The Khatib brothers from Pennsylvania who started the trend claim themselves to be “actors” and that the pranks are harmless. ABC lawyer Dana Cole says the kids could be arrested because this simple prank leads to some store employee cleaning up the mess, which could have this seen as a crime. A crime against comedy.

I would beat my kid’s ass if he did this. You don’t intentionally make a mess for someone else to clean up! Nor do you willfully damage/destroy property. What’s the difference between this and vandalism or shoplifting?

My 8-year-old brought this “trend” up at dinner tonight and I took a page from Handflapper’s book. I told him if he EVER did this or destroyed ANYONE’S property in ANY WAY I would BEAT his ass raw.
Kids!

sounds lame. kids just aren’t creative these days. and I really thought they’d say it’s a crime because, you know, the kids don’t pay for the milk.
