Last Saturday, 25 year-old Tyler Deutsch got tired of all the crying and fussing from his six week-old daughter, and placed the baby in the freezer for an hour.
Now, I must admit, my younger son was not a crier, so I’m a bit out of practice, but some of those hazy, nightmarish first weeks with my older son come to mind. Let me think—I placed him in his bouncy seat. I placed him over my shoulder, and then the other shoulder, and then over my knees on his tummy. I placed him in the swing, and when that didn’t work, I placed him back in the bouncy seat, and stood there to hold that on top of the running dryer (on top of the dryer, people, not in the dryer…). I placed him in his car seat and tried taking him for a drive. Then, I do remember placing him in his crib so I could go and sob hysterically in the living room without him seeing me. Finally, if I remember correctly, my mother came over and made me place the baby her arms so I could shower and nap.
Yeah, I was pretty sure I never placed the baby in the freezer. Nope, the freezer didn’t come to mind for me.
Mother to the baby girl and girlfriend to Deutsch (Am I the only one who reads this as “Douche”? Am I?) called 911 when, apparently, she inquired about the baby’s whereabouts, and he then pulled their infant daughter out of the freezer. The child was rushed to the hospital with a core body temperature of only 84 degrees—anything below 95 degrees is dangerous. Once at the hospital, doctors found that the infant had broken bones and other injuries.
It almost goes without saying that Douche, er, I mean Deutsch, is being charged with attempted murder.
