We’ve all had those days where we just didn’t want to get out of bed and go to work. I’m having one of those days right now! So, we either suck it up, and go in, or we call and make up a little white lie and tell the boss we’re sick. Cough, cough. But one teacher in Scotland doesn’t stick with the usual excuses. Derek McGlone, a former teacher at Calderhead High School, has recently had to go before the General Teaching Council Scotland to explain some of the lies he told between June 2008 and May 2011. Three years of lies!
According to the statements made by his colleagues, these excuses included little gems such as McGlone was stuck in a volcanic ash cloud in Iceland. Or that he had run over a little girl with his car. Calderhead High School head Joyce Kilmartin wrote in an official statement that stated McGlone said he felt his car wheels running over her body. That’s a little extreme, no?
McGlone is also under fire f0r the way he reacted when he discovered he’d been reported. In April 2011, he took to Facebook and called his coworkers bitches and said he would hunt them down. He then resigned later that year. He is now asking to return to teaching, stating that he can “give no reasonable explanation for my actions,” and that he was “embarrassed and sorry.”
Obviously they should give him his job back, I mean, clearly he’s learned his lesson, and would probably make an excellent role model for high school students!
