Marilyn Davenport, a Tea Party activitist and member of the Orange County Republican Party’s central committee, is not stepping down and apologizes to anyone she may have offended when she sent an email to fellow conservatives earlier this week. Under the words, “Now you know why no birth certificate,” was this picture:
When the email leaked, she reacted by saying:
“Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people–mostly people I didn’t think would be upset by it.”
Wow. I’m pretty sure that’s not the best response. That’s like saying that since I’m a woman I can make sexist jokes. Really? Are you kidding? And if the people you know wouldn’t be upset by it, one can only surmise that the people you know must share your same views. That’s comforting.
Luckily, there are some members of the GOP who have more than one brain cell working at one time. One high ranking Republican stated:
“I can’t believe it was sent out. I’m not an Obama fan but how stupid do you have to be to do this?”
I won’t answer that. You can decide that for yourselves.
However, as of Saturday, Davenport has no plans on stepping down. She sent out another email (which to me sounds kind of dumb. You’d think she’d stay away from email and just use the phone from now on.):
“I’m sorry if my email offended anyone. I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth. In no way did I even consider the fact he’s half black when I sent out the email. In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people tried to make this about race. We all know a double standard applies regarding this president. I received plenty of emails about George Bush that I didn’t particularly like yet there was no ‘cry’ in the media about them. One only has to go to Youtube or Google Images to see a plethora or lampooning videos and pictures of Obama, Bush and other politicians. That being said, I will NOT resign my central committee position over this matter that the average person knows and agrees is much to do about nothing. Again, for those select few who might be truly offended by viewing a copy of an email I sent to a select list of friends and acquaintances, unlike the liberal left when they do the same, I offer my sincere apologies to you–the email was not meant for you. For any of my friends or acquaintances who were the recipients of my email and were truly offended, please call me so I may offer a sincere verbal apology to you.”
What’s her number? I say we all give her a little call on the telephone.

Holy shit, is this lady stupid!! If you claim that your not racist (you clearly are) then you must be so amazingly ignorant that it should be againsdt the law that you hold a public position.
I think she should spend some time on the inside of the zoo cage for chimps. She might actually convince them she’s not racist. Or they can just eat her face.

It’s like claiming that you’re funny, which I am. Generally that means that you’re not.
Oh. Wait.

That is stupidity on a remarkable scale. And with that response she obviously has no PR people working for her – or if she does, they should be fired.

Amen to that. Who ARE her PR people?

Well she did say she had black friends. I mean, it isn’t like a racist person would say something like that when they come under fire & need to cover their ass, right?
Was my sarcasm too subtle?

I bet she doesn’t have black friends now. Hence she used the past tense, “did.”

Wow! What an idiot! ‘I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth.’ Is this the mask of racism now? No, I’m not a racist. I have black friends. I always ask my president for a Birth Certificate. Everybody knows that Hawaii is a fake state like Missouri.

Is Hawaii a state now? Wait. Missouri is too?

“I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth.” HA! So she was under the impression that there was some slight chance that Obama was born to chimpanzees? Wowza.
That being said…I am never EVER going into anything remotely important because if any of my emails were ever leaked I would probably be locked away in a sanitarium.
Locked up.

I think this email is fabulous. It finally proves, without a shadow of a doubt, that the birther movement is based in racism. The fact she won’t acknowledge it just proves it.

“I have friends who are black.” that’s like the anthem of racists.

I saw her on TV, and she said she never even *thought* of Obama’s race when she sent it-but THEN went on to say she only sent it to “people who would not be offended”.
Uh, what?
