You might not be willing to admit it, but there is just something comforting about holding a teddy bear. And yes, I do own a few stuffed animals. I also have a build-a-bear that resembles my husband that I spray his cologne on and take with me when I visit my mom in New Mexico. It’s not creepy – it’s endearing….so back off!
Stuffed animals are cute, soft, and everyone should own at least one.
However, I must say that if I ever happened upon a grown man sleeping with his teddy bear, the first thing I would think is “mentally unstable”…probably followed by “mommy issues” or “child-killer”. It just wouldn’t look right.
And if I’m inadvertently talking about you, our dear reader, then let me apologize for my stereotype and offer you some hope, because you are not alone. In fact, if you move to Britain, you’d fit right in. 35% of British adults – that’s right…ADULTS – still sleep with stuffed animals. And guess what? Most of them are men.
A study was just released and the statistics they came up with are weird, surprising, and, well, just read it yourself:
- 25% of men reported they take their teddy bear with them when going away on business. Many said the bear reminds them of home and a cuddle helps them to nod off.

- 51% of British adults said they still have a teddy bear from their childhood and the average teddy in Britain is 27 years old.
- One-in-10 single men surveyed in England admitted they hide their teddy bear when their girlfriend stayed over, while 14 percent of married men reported they hide their teddy bear when any family and friends came to visit.

- 15% of men versus 10% of women reported they treat their teddy as their best friend and will share their intimate secrets with their bear.
- 26% of male respondents stated it was quite acceptable to have a bear regardless of your age. (says the guys who own teddy bears)
