Like many of you, I live much of my life online, from getting news to shopping to reading and writing blogs to communicating with friends to sharing family photos to posting snapshots of my dog… if I can do it online, I will do it online.
I am what Nora Ephron calls a “mouse potato” (the computer version of TV’s couch potato).
Online, I can be brave and crazy; out in the real world, I am not much of a gambler – I don’t sky dive, mountain climb, or eat crazy Survivor-type food; I stay with employers for a decade at a time, drive the same car for years, and outside of work live in the same blue jeans and sweaters.
While not a gambler per se, I have always like games, to compete and yes to win, and even as an adult am an avid fan of Scrabble, Risk and Monopoly. I even loved the movie version of Clue. And yes I played Dungeons & Dragons as a geeky kid… wait, is that cool now because of The Big Bang Theory?
Several months ago a friend sent me the link to the SongPop app which is like a virtual Name That Tune, and I became an instant fanatic on Facebook and iPad. Love it.
Then I was sent Words With Friends, a sort of online Scrabble, and the competitive juices kicked in. I play with friends, with strangers, with my husband, and the stakes seem high… I want to win!
And this past weekend I was sent the link to castlejackpot.com – an online gambling site I had never visited, and I thought ooh, online gambling, how grown up, how competitive, hey that’s a little bit dangerous, and hey that is something I can do from my house wearing only socks, so I should check this out!
So check it out I did, and welcoming me on the home page was my old friend Rich Uncle Pennybags, aka the Monopoly Man … hey, I know how this works, I feel right at home. And then I saw Scrabble and Clue and Star Trek and Ghostbusters and a lot more familiar faces… wait, I can gamble with my boardgame friends? Next time I am wide awake and bored in a hotel room (I travel a lot, it happens a lot), I know to boot up my computer and I know where to head for the jackpot!
