In a shocking (and by shocking, I mean not so shocking) move last week, Rush Limbaugh, talk show host and gas bag, told the world how he’s, “ashamed of America” for the first time in his life. He said that, “to have our common sense and intelligence insulted the way it’s being, it just makes me ashamed.”
Oh, poor baby. As if America isn’t ashamed of him at all. I mean, we all know Rush is the authority on American idealism and we should all look to him to set the bar for how all Americans should behave. That’s not ironic at all.
At any rate, the next day, Rush clarified his statements, explaining that his “frustration had been directed at the country’s liberal leanings.”
Uh, no shit? We thought that you were mad at Republicans, aka god’s chosen people (she said, dripping with sarcasm).
[T]he left has beaten us. They have created far more low-information, unaware, uneducated people than we’ve been able to keep up with… Liberals now have control of pop culture, movies, TVs, books [and] music. We’ve just been outnumbered.
Uh huh. Right. Sure.
Let me get this straight, Rush, because I wouldn’t want you to be misunderstood: you’re ashamed of liberals, but you never were before; you think liberals are stupid and uneducated and appeal to uneducated voters; and conservatives are outnumbered because Hollywood is predominately liberal?
Did I get that right?
First, has anything really changed either in the liberal playbook or in your rhetoric attacking them? Anything? If we plopped you down in 1960, what would you say about Communism or a Catholic president or that evil rock and roll? Does Rush really think he’s playing anyone with this claptrap, claiming he’s just reached his limit of tolerance? Give me a break.
I’m rolling my eyes so hard, they’ve gotten stuck back in my head. Someone send help.
And that brings me to my favorite part, the most delicious of delicious ironies. Liberals have insulted Rush’s intelligence, Republicans’ intelligence. Rush Limbaugh’s intelligence is insulted. Seriously. That’s what he’s claiming. I wonder who he’s referring to exactly? Who is so overtly stupid or who is peddling such asinine drivel or insipid propaganda that Rush has just had enough?
My bad. I forgot it was a Democrat who taught us all about magical vaginas and legitimate rape or who thinks that men rode dinosaurs or doesn’t believe in the scientific method yet sits on the House Science Committee.
You know, like this guy.
Yup, it’s Democrats who insult our intelligence, absolutely.
Look, Rushbag, Dems aren’t infallible, but do you really think we’re buying your bullshit? Do you really think you’re, as our good friend Lance put it, “playing righties like a fiddle?”
Maybe he is. Maybe for those that binge on “fair and balanced” news sources and think Rush is the mouthpiece of dead Reagan, he is fooling some of the people most of the time. Otherwise, he wouldn’t get the ratings he does. Maybe. Maybe he’s able to convince masses of people that the other side is guilty of the same exact shit he himself is guilty of, namely blatant propaganda, pathological lying, and an ego the size of a planet he probably doesn’t believe in.
But if Republicans are becoming outnumbered, if more and more Americans are abandoning the GOP machine, it’s not because of Hollywood; it’s because they themselves are insulting people’s intelligence, because women aren’t stupid enough to believe their vaginas repel rape babies, because middle income Americans are sick of carrying the financial burden of the entire country while the wealthiest continue to profit, because more and more people are sick of the intolerance and of the uncompromising ideology and fanaticism, because moderate Americans are tired of their intelligence being insulted.
The secret, big guy, is that Republicans are outnumbered because they chose to push moderate Republicans out. Anyone with a differing idea or opinion or belief was shoved out of their party and were called stupid for questioning why.
Rush is ashamed? Oh irony.

He’s playing his own low information listeners for suckers. Fear is what motivates that part of the political spectrum, these days. Add loathing to the mix and somewhere, not Heaven, but somewhere else, Hunter S. Thompson is laughing.

Let us just assume, for the sake of argument, that the Rushster had broadcast during the Civil Rights movement. Can you imagine the things he would have said? Done? Shudder. At least he’s confined to on-air idiocy and bigotry and isn’t gallavanting around with his low-lifes helping him enforce every little thing that spews out of his mouth.
