Seriously not safe for work, but you need to see it anyway.

I am in an atrociously grumpy mood, and I know the subject of voter fraud has already been recently addressed by one of my fellow Sprockets, and coincidentally, so has Sarah Silverman, so this seems entirely timely, right?

So there you have it. If you live in a state of voter suppression, which I do not,  shockingly, make sure everyone you know has a state-issued photo ID and get them to a polling place come Election Day!

  1. One problem, and I know I’m supposed to be all liberal, but…..

You can get a photo ID without getting a driver’s license.

Yes, this is Republican chicanery, but, it’s a law. So, deal. Until it’s repealed or whatever, there are plenty of ways to get to a photo ID.

This is the funniest thing Sarah’s done in five years.

  2. State issued photo IDs are a dime a dozen these days. Okay, maybe 1 for $20.

It might just be my polling place, but where I come from the polling places are generally managed by women and men 65-85. They have never asked my affiliation, though I’m sure it’s on the big list they check my ID against. They smile, take me by the elbow, and lead me to the secret voting shower stalls. They do this with all who enter, regardless of race, sex, or creed. They are just happy to be out and about and talking to people.

I’m sure voter suppression exists. I’m sure it happens on both sides, and I’m a lefty. However, I still don’t think it’s the main cause for people not getting out and rocking the vote. People need to be educated. People need to take back the belief that getting involved and being informed WILL make a difference.

We see cab and transportation companies offering free rides to people who have been drinking every holiday. Perhaps we should encourage our local transport providers to offer free rides to polling places? Eliminate the excuse of “I can’t afford a cab/bus ride.” or “I don’t know where to go”.

  3. I think we will see significantly decreased numbers in the four groups mentioned by Silverman this year– in the states that have instituted these laws. Also, the ones who have now restricted early voting and absentee ballots. It reminds me of when they tried shutting the polling places down early in downtown St. Louis, despite the hours-long lines out the buildings. This is Jim Crow on a class level.

  4. completely fucking brilliant.
