It will come without dreidels.
It will come without menorahs.
It will come without cards you won’t sell at your store-uhs.
Hannakuh will come despite discrimination.
And we shall not tolerate recrimination.
We will boycott your business
We will boycott, boycott, boycott…
Right here in New Jersey in a Jewish neighborhood
Hobby Lobby, it seems, was up to no good.
Said the shop clerk to customer “We don’t sell goods for ‘your kind’”
When said patron noticed Jewish Holiday items were difficult to find.
It’s the latest of the stupid and narrow minded gall
Raised by people with hearts many sizes too small
And brains the size of minute shriveled peas
From Barilla to Paula – the intolerant sleaze
Hannakuh will come
It will come just the same
Despite Hobby Lobby and Steve Green, CEO/Purveyor Of Lame
So don’t hop to this shop, for their attitude must stop
They are “Christians” who think they’re the cream of the crop
They’ll only hire and serve those of their own religion
And that, my friends, makes them lower than pigeon
So here’s my suggestion for something to lobby
Let’s stop shopping there ’til they get a new hobby
One that includes everyone and meets better criteria
That won’t spread exclusion like diseased diptheria
Let us stop shopping there – make our point in a drove-r
Let ‘em know that we mean it – that this won’t Pass over
Throw them on the heap with the pasta and celebrity cooks
Who insist on behaving like narrow minded shnooks
And this Hannakuh, when the candles are lit
Know that you only shopped where the store gave a shit.
Since New Jersey blogger Ken Berwitz broke this story earlier this week, Hobby Lobby CEO Steve Green issued the following statement: “Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. is currently working with our buyers over our merchandise selection. Our customers have brought this to our attention and we are currently evaluating our Holiday items and what we will carry in the future.” Let’s hope that “reviewing” also means “making changes.”
